I FANTASTICI 4

FANTASTIC FOUR

prima serie Editoriale Corno

Notes

  • The events in Doctor Strange Vol 2 #53 (in Italy in THPP #42)West Coast Avengers Vol 2 #22 (in Italy in STARMAGORO #7), Rise of Apocalypse #3 (in Italy in L’ASCESA DI APOCALISSE) and Rise of Apocalypse #4  (in Italy in L’ASCESA DI APOCALISSE) all take place between the events depicted in this story.
  • As revealed in Rise of Apocalypse Vol 1  (in Italy in L’ASCESA DI APOCALISSE) the ascension of En Sabah Nur, making him the first mutant on Earth happened at this time. Rama-Tut attempted to make En Sabah Nur his heir, instead the future mutant who would become Apocalypse was partiall responsible for the rebellion against Rama-Tut.
  • It is later revealed that Rama-Tut doesn’t come from a possible future of Earth-616 but that of a parallel universe, designated Earth-6311
also known as “Other-Earth”. This world did not enter a dark age in the
6th century like on most worlds and technology continued to advance as
revealed in Fantastic Four #273 (in Italy in F4ST #45). This connection to Rama-Tut’s future world is established in What If? (Vol. 2) #39 (unpublished in Italy).
  • Fantastic Four Annual #11 (in Italy in F4C #211)
explains that although the time machine used by the Fantastic Four here
is referred to as the Time-Platform created by Doctor Doom in Fantastic Four #5 (in Italy first in PROVOLINUS and after in F4C #3),
it is actually a replica created by Reed Richards. The original time
machine is still located at Doom’s American castle, as seen in Avengers Annual #2 (in Italy in THC #70).
  • The group narrowly missed seeing the time lost Avengers West Coast,
who were forced to travel backward in time. Trapped in this era, they
hoped to hitch a ride back to the present with the Fantastic Four when
they defeated Rama-Tut. This story reveals that it was the interference
of the Avengers that prevented Rama-Tut from employing his futuristic
robots and weapons to quell the uprising in his kingdom.

Synopsis

Summoned by Reed Richards to the Baxter Building, the Human Torch is informed that his next mission is to stop the Sandman who has just escaped from prison.

Finding the crook, the Torch is told that Sandman will only face Spider-Man, as Spider-Man is the hero who had put him behind bars.

The Torch then disguises himself as Spider-Man issues a challenge to the villain to fight him one on one, however the Sandman gets the drop on “Spider-Man” and attacks him from behind.

The Torch flames on, burning his imitation Spider-Man suit in the process, and tries to fight Sandman again, and even when doused in water and unable to use his flame powers, the Torch manages to gain the upper hand and defeat Sandman, turning him over to the authorities.

The real Spider-Man, who had been making his way towards the scene of the battle does not arrive until the fight is over. Spider-Man expresses relief that the Torch is okay, but he is also worried that the Torch may be a more successful teenage superhero than he is.

Notes

  • In this issue, the Torch states that the excess heat in his body, doubles his normal strength. This power helps him defeat the Sandman. If this is a power of the Human Torch, it has diminished or been ignored in his further adventures.
