Synopsis

As the Hulk wanders, he tries to remember what he was doing, having vague recollections of his alter ego’s, Bruce Banner, near-marriage Betty Ross. However, due to a formulat hat Reed Richards
and Banner, the memories of Hulk had been altered and no longer
remembers that he is also Banner and istead Hulk remembers being encaged
by Banner. The memories of Banner’s failed wedding cause Hulk great
emotional pain, sending Hulk on a rampage, scaring off some beach-goers
before passing out and reverting back into Bruce Banner.

Meanwhile, at a California Air Force base, Major Talbot is called in, receiving word that a highly radioactive comet is heading toward Earth. He reports this to General Ross,
recuperating in the hospital after an injury from the Hulk. Glenn tells
General Ross and Betty of the impending danger. Ross orders Talbot to
call in all available troops.

Miles away, Bruce revives, overhearing on an abandoned radio of
the danger and rushes towards the base. Surrendering to the military and
offering his aid, Talbot agrees to let Banner pilot the new X-890
nuclear warhead to destroy the comet. Succeeding, Bruce takes aboard an
unknown stowaway: The Absorbing Man, exiled to the comet some time after his last battle against Thor.
As the rocket returns to Earth, the Absorbing Man tries to attack
Banner in the cockpit. Seeing the Absorbing Man in the rear monitor,
Bruce is upset enough to transform into the Hulk. The two fight on the
rocket until it crashes into the Earth.

The crash doesn’t phase the two combatants, the Absorbing Man
relying on his powers to best the Hulk in combat. During the fight, the
Absorbing Man continues to absorb the Hulk’s strength, turning it
against him. Knocking him out, the Absorbing Man is about to crush the
Hulk with a portion of mountainside. However, the Hulk reverts back to
Banner, causing the Absorbing Man to instead absorb Banner’s lesser
strength. Unable to support the weight, the stone begins to crumble as
Absorbing Man frantically reapplies properties. Reacting too late, he
breaks into pieces. Getting away but knocked unconscious by the
shockwaves, Bruce Banner is safe from danger… except, who are these
people watching from the shadows?

Synopsis

Continued from last issue…

In outer space, the rocket passes through a radiation storm and the Hulk is bathed in a massive dose of powerful celestial energy. The power surge arcs downward back towards Earth, striking Rick Jones. Rick appears to be fine, but cannot explain the sudden upsurge of energy. As night turns to day, the space capsule detaches from the fuselage of the ship and plummets back towards Earth. Rick races out to the impact sight, fearful that the crash may have killed Bruce Banner. It is not Banner who emerges from the ship however, but the incredible Hulk. Rick doesn’t understand how Banner is still the Hulk even though it is now daytime. The Hulk begins chasing Rick Jones, seeking to avenge himself against Rick’s betrayal. Rick runs and in a desperate bid to save his own life, orders the Hulk to stop. Miraculously, the Hulk obeys his commands. Rick now realizes that the energy surge he felt back at the desert base somehow created a connection between himself and the Hulk. He orders the Hulk to bring him back to his cabin and watch over him so he can get some sleep.

While Rick is asleep however, he loses his control over the Hulk. The Hulk breaks through the wall of the cabin and goes on a rampage in a nearby town. Rick catches up to him and orders him to take him to the sanctuary cave. There, Rick instructs the Hulk to enter the steel cell and secures the door behind him. Tired, Rick slumps to the floor on the other side of the door. He refuses to fall asleep however, less the Hulk goes berserk and breaks free.
