Synopsis
When the mechanical arms of Dr. Octopus are put on display at New York’s Museum of Natural Science, Otto Octavius uses his mental link to them to command them to go to the prison where he is being held prisoner and bust him out. Happening by, Spider-Man tries to stop them, but has to let them go when the damage they cause effects the structural integrity of a building, and Spider-Man has to focus his powers on preventing the building from collapsing until it can be evacuated. He then returns to his apartment and changed back to Peter Parker, so that he can catch up with his studying but ends up falling asleep.
The next day, Peter goes to class and is asked to see Professor Warren, Warren warns Peter that his grades are getting dangerously low, and if they continue to drop he may lose his scholarship. Meanwhile, the arms of Dr. Octopus manage to reach the prison and break their master free. Putting on his arms once more, Octopus flees the prison to begin his criminal activities anew.
Octopus then takes control of an aircraft bound for New York which is carrying General Su, a military leader from a foreign country who is going to the UN Building in New York to sign important paperwork. Octopus takes the plane hostage and when it lands in New York. There, Octopus demands a ransom of 10 million dollars. Peter Parker (who is there covering the story for the Bugle) boards the plane was Spider-Man. Fighting Octopus, Spider-Man manages to free everyone on board the plane. During their fight, the Doctor manages to activate the planes engines with one of his arms. When the plane moves down the runway out of control, Spider-Man flees the jet, and it soon crashes. Everyone believes that Octopus died in the crash, however Spider-Man is not convinced that this is the end of his old foe.

Synopsis
Returning home from the airport following
the supposed death of Dr. Octopus, Spider-Man is less than convinced
that his long time enemy is gone for good. Changing back to Peter
Parker, he gets a copy of the Bugle where he learns that no trace of Doc
Ock’s body was found, and is determined to find his enemy and bring him
to justice. When Randy Robertson approaches Peter to help participate
in a protest against air pollution, Peter declines and has no valid
excuse to give Randy (not without compromising his identity as
Spider-Man at least.)
Meanwhile, Dr. Octopus, having survived the plane crash learns that the
press has considered that he’s dead. This gives Octopus ample
opportunity to track down and destroy Spider-Man once and for all. Peter
changes into Spider-Man again and begins scouring the city looking for
Doctor Octopus. He eventually finds Octavius attacking the city’s main
power plant. If Octopus succeeds in destroying it, he could black out
the entire city.
Spider-Man goes in for the attack, and after a fierce battle,
Spider-Man is easily over powered by his enemy, who tosses the
unconscious Spider-Man to the streets below hoping the fall will prove
fatal.
Trivia
- When Dr. Octopus was last seen in the previous issue, he was
aboard an exploding plane in the same clothes he wore when his arms
broke him out of prison. Yet, at the beginning of this issue, he appears
in his usual costume.

Synopsis
After hiding inside a building, Doctor Octopus’ tentacles come after
Spider-Man but stop just in time when they can’t find him.
Spidey manages to place a Spider-Tracer on the tentacles so he can find
Doctor Octupus later when he has a chance to recuperate.
Exhausted, he changes back to Peter Parker and is found by George Stacy
who, once Peter is rested, remarks that he has never known anyone with
such amazing powers of recuperation. Spider-Man leaves the Stacy’s house
and swings back home to work through the night on a way to defeat
Doctor Octopus. He manages to come up with a fluid that will essentially
block Doctor Octopus’s control over his tentacles.
In the morning Spider-Man sets out to find Doctor Octopus and comes
across his Spider-Tracer in an empty room. Doctor Octopus had found the
tracer and placed it there as a trap for Spider-Man. Engaged in battle,
Spider-Man starts spraying Doctor Octopus’ tentacles with the new web
fluid he made overnight. Suddenly the arms lose control and start
fighting each other and then turn against their owner and even as they
wildly fling around they hit a chimney sending bricks crashing to the
ground.
Meanwhile on the ground there stands a child directly in the path of the
falling bricks and Captain Stacy also in the crowd below pushes the
child out of the way to save him. Unfortunately Captain Stacy is hit
full on with the bricks and Spider-Man goes down to save him. Pulling
him out of the rubble and once atop the rooftop, Stacy dies in
Spider-Man’s hands, but not without first revealing that he knows
Spider-Man is Peter Parker.
Spider-Man is given instructions to look after Gwen Stacy, while
Spider-Man worries that she may learn that her father died because of
him.
