Synopsis
Conan, pausing to drink from an oasis in the desert, encounters a
giant snake. The snake is killed by the Stygian Thutmekri, but Conan
himself is stuck in quicksand and Thutmekri, citing his disdain for
barbarians, declines to help him. Conan uses the body of the snake to
drag himself out and goes after the man who left him to die. He
encounters Thutmekri’s bearers, but they have been slaughtered and the
Stygian himself tied to a tree. Conan frees the man and in
return,Thutmekri reveals he had stolen a religious idol from Zembabwei.
Conan decides to retrieve the golden statue, and begins to hunt through
the rainforest-like oasis. He comes across another of Thutmekri’s party,
M’Gorah, who explains that the Witch-Dancers of Zembabwei have
kidnapped Helgi, Thutmekri’s slave girl, and plan to sacrifice her.
Never one to let a beautiful, buxom blonde slave girl go to waste, Conan
tracks down the Witch-Dancers and discovers Helgi chained to a tree. It
turns out to be a trap, set by M’Gorah, who is actually possessed by
Thutmekri’s enemy Dalboor. The natives of Zimbabwei come forth, and
M’Gorah/Dalboor begins the sacrifice ritual around the golden ape idol.
Conan manages to crawl free from the pit he has fallen in, only to
encounter a giant fanged ape. A battle occurs, and Conan manages to kill
the monster with a poisoned dagger, but not before, it its rage, the
creature kills M’Gorah. Conan takes the opportunity to free Helgi,
intending to get to know her better.
Helgi (Hyboria) (Earth-616)
Helgi
The gold-dressed slave girl named Helgi was purchased by Thutmekri.
When her master was attacked by Dalboor, she was kidnapped by the
Witch-Dancers of Zembabwei, who were planning to sacrifice her to Zemba,
but she was eventually rescued by Conan.
Zemba (Earth-616)
Zemba
Zemba was a golden fanged ape, a carnivorous monster who attacked Conan
with its razor-sharp claws upon Dalboor’s command. The Cimmerian
eventually managed to kill the mammoth creature with a poisoned dagger,
but not before, it its rage, the creature killed M’Gorah.
Thutmekri (Earth-616)
Thutmekri
Thutmekri was a Stygian who journeyed to the ancient black kingdom of
Zembabwei, stole a graven golden image of their great gorilla god and
then fled north, across the sprawling Iranistani desert till he crossed
the nearby Ilbars River. Along the way, he purchased the gold-dressed
slave girl named Helgi, to keep him warm in climates increasingly cool.
He met Conan
in a verdant rain forest, slayed the lakhmu which was threatening him,
but, citing his disdain for barbarians, declined to help him get out a
quicksand. A while later, Thutmekri was then found by Conan tied to a
tree, victim of his enemy Dalboor, who was hunting him to recover the
stolen idol.
M’Gorah (Earth-616)
M’Gorah
M’Gorah was Thutmekri’s bodyguard. He was actually possessed by the
Thutmekri’s enemy Dalboor, who took command of his body to sacrifice
Helgi to the golden ape idol. He was eventually killed by the golden
fanged ape Zemba.

- While
pledged to watch over Dr. Calvin until she is healed Ka-Zar finds
himself stuck in the city. He rescues a pusher from an attack and ends
up involved in a turf war. When The Pusher attempts to kidnap Dr. Calvin
he stops him and his men but Dr. Calvin has a relapse. Later it turns
out that one of the men he took to the police is Dr. Calvin’s son.

Synopsis
Investigating a report of a Cape
Buffalo smashing up a local village, Shanna finds an ancient Greek city in the middle of the jungle.
Its inhabitants left ancient Crete after an attack by northwestern
barbarians and formed a New Knossos in Africa. However, since the
Minoans (which are what we call people from ancient Crete) worshiped
bulls, which are not abundant in Africa, they took to worshiping a
mystically modified version of the Cape Buffalo instead.
Now
the bull priest has gone crazy and taken over the village.
