Synopsis
to shake violently and briefly blink out of existence. Arriving on the
scene is Iron Man, who tries to get into the mansion to see what is
causing this situation. Unfortunately, there is some kind of barrier
that is preventing him from entering the mansion. At that moment, Peter
Parker is watching the situation unfold on television and debates going
to help as Spider-Man. His mind is made up when his roommate, Harry
Osborn, yells at him for having the television up too loud and slams the
door. Soon, Spider-Man arrives at Avengers Mansion. Just as Iron Man is
telling Spider-Man that he can handle this on his own when suddenly a
portal opens through the barrier.
The pair jumps through and they end up falling into another
dimension, a strange world where highly advanced ships dogfighting above
them. When Iron Man flies up to try and stop the battle from
continuing, one of the ships catches the armored Avenger in a tractor
beam. The ship then lands and from it emerges Zarrko the Tomorrow Man.
He tells the two heroes that they have a mutual enemy that they must
stop and invites them aboard his ship. He then flies through the time
barrier to the 23rd century. He explains that his era was invaded by
their mutual foe due to the fact that his era is defenseless. He flies
them over a facility where the Avengers are being held captive.
Spider-Man and Iron Man then leap out to the ground below and engage the
guards standing outside. They easily get past the guards and defenses
until they are attacked by a massive cyborg. During the cyborgs opening
salvo, Iron Man’s power source is damaged. Spider-Man quickly
incapacitates the cyborg while Iron Man reroutes his circuits to restore
full power.
Meanwhile, outside, Zarrko lands his ship as the time storm that
prevented him from entering has dissipated enough to let him enter the
fortress himself. With his plan succeeding, Zarrko believes that he is
on the cusp of ruling all time. Elsewhere in the facility, Spider-Man
and Iron Man have found the room where the Avengers are being held in
stasis. They also discover that their foe is none other than Kang the
Conqueror. The evil time traveller blasts both heroes with a bolt of
energy that knocks them out. However, before Kang can deal with them,
Zarrko arrives hoping to take control of Kang’s plot to take over the
present.
Notes
- The narrative of this story states that this story takes place between Amazing Spider-Man #119–120 (in Italy in URC #131-132). This is impossible given that both those issues have Spider-Man fighting the Hulk in Canada. According to Official Index to the Marvel Universe #3 this story actually takes place before the events of Amazing Spider-Man #119 (in Italy in URC #131).
- The narrative also states that Zarrko the Tomorrow man was last
seen in Thor #102. No such issue exists. They actually mean he last
appeared in Journey into Mystery #102 (in Italy in THC #10), the title that was later rennamed Thor Vol 1 with the original numbering.
- As explained in Fantastic Four Annual #25 (unpublished in Italy), Kang is not physically here. Instead, he is operating this robotic version of himself remotely.
- Zarrko states that the captured heroes came from the year 1973. This should be considered a topical reference per the Sliding Timescale of Earth-616.

Other Characters:
- Sorcerers (flashback)
Locations:
- Land Within
Synopsis
Continued from last issue…
King Gerark tells
Morbius that The Land Within was created by a sorcerer, Ebrok, who
filled the world by transforming housecats into cat-like demons.
Ebrok and his fellow sorcerers created more and more cat-like
demons, but after a few generations, their intellect increased and they
became a threat to the sorcerers.
The cat demons revolted but were unsuccessful. The sorcerers
imprisoned them with magic, creating The Land Within as a cage for the
demons.
Each generation, a demon is chosen to be the Balkatar, a title
meaning ‘The Summoned One’. The Balkatar must do the bidding of whoever
summons him.
The demons culture and science was enhanced drastically over
time, and their population became too great for them to sustain
themselves. The demons do not wish to harm each other themselves, so the
king proposes that Morbius do their dirty work for them.
Morbius refuses to harm anyone. He escapes the throne room by
leaping out of a window and vows to kill the king and free the Balkatar.
Morbius is still weak, so he drinks from a cat demon. He accidentally
drinks too much and kills her. With his strength returning to him, he
suddenly realizes his is surrounded. The cat demons, who saw him kill
one of their own, attack Morbius and throw him into a nearby river. At
the end of the river is a wall of mystical energy. Morbius wonders if
this is his chance to escape, so he dives underwater just as he passes
through the wall!

Other Characters:
Locations:
- Land Within
Synopsis
After passing through the wall in The Land Within, Morbius awakens on
a strange planet hungering for blood. He finds a young couple and
attacks the man, but is horrified to discover that he is not human. He
reminisces about what’s happened thus far, then attacks and drains the
woman, though not enough to kill her.
Travelling to a city in the distance, he is met by a mental
projection of Lord I, Potentate of Arcuturus. Emerging from the shadows,
Lord I explains that Morbius is to remain on Arcturus because the
Caretakers can not be allowed to complete their work on Earth.
I
explains that the Caretakers are the ancestors of the Arcturans, and
that the tampering that was done caused an escalating war over the
genetic future of their race. This war ended in nuclear annihilation.
Most survivors went mad and fled the cities, living in tribes that have
forgotten how they even came to be. I and his fellow mutants were
changed by the radioactive fallout, becoming super-intelligent,
incredibly long-lived, and unwilling to go on living.
Unwilling to believe I’s statement, Morbius grabs a nearby woman
and threatens to kill her. He is astounded as the Arcturans stand by
silently and allow him to drain her completely.
Realizing that this is
the future in store for humanity, Morbius agrees that the Caretakers
must be destroyed.
