Synopsis
The Smasher is sent out to capture Joe
Robertson, the one man resourceful enough to uncover dirt on Richard
Raleigh. Spider-Man arrives in time to stop the creature from capturing
Robertson, and leads the monster on a chase through the city, until he
can escape. Resuming his guise of Peter Parker, Spider-Man joins Harry,
Gwen and Mary Jane in driving a campaign truck for Raleigh’s campaign.
It’s soon attacked by the Smasher. Everyone gets out safely before the
Smasher destroys the truck, but a furious Peter Parker storms off after
the monster, changing into Spider-Man to stop the Smasher once and for
all.
With a spider-tracer, Spider-Man tracks the Smasher back to the
Disruptor’s lair, where the Disruptor over-uses the control device on
Smasher, causing the beast to go berserk, killing the Disruptor with but
one blow. Spider-Man fights the monster until it overloads and dies
itself. In the aftermath of the battle, Spider-Man unmasks the Disruptor
and learns that it’s really Raleigh in disguise. He leaves the scene
when the police arrive, and Jonah and Robertson discover the body of
Raleigh, Jameson remains unconvinced that Raleigh was involved in any
criminal activity, and intends on writing one of his usual
anti-Spider-Man editorials for the Bugle’s next edition.

Synopsis
Continued from last issue…
A mysterious robed figure on
the road instead directs him to a nearby house, where he meets the
Caretakers, who have psychic powers and are engaging in genetic engineering.
The Caretakers reveal that they are ancient aliens, having arrived on
Earth “when your young race was only beginning to climb down from the
trees”. They claim to have trained humanity, teaching them how to use
tools and make fire. They are now dying, but they are breeding a race
of super-men that will “join with man and carry on our work”. They call
it Project: Second Genesis. They are in battle with Daemond because
“he believes that man’s future lies with the dark forces of the
supernatural”. Morbius doesn’t really agree with the Caretakers’ goals
and tries to abandon them, but they offer to locate Morbius’ girlfriend
Martine if he’ll kill Daemond (the Caretakers themselves are said to
have been bred to be pacifists), and he agrees. But it turns out that
Martine has actually joined Daemond’s cult and Daemond summons a cat-demon to fight Morbius.

Synopsis
As the sun begins to rise over the city, Morbius becomes determined
to escape the painful light. He kicks the demon Balkatar from off of him
and escapes to a dark alleyway.
Morbius runs through connected alleys, but Balkatar catches up to
him and attacks. Morbius fights back but the encroaching sunlight
weakens him.
To Morbius’ surprise, Balkatar is intelligent and can speak.
While conversing with Morbius, Balkatar hears a telepathic message from
his leader, who he calls his “Majesty.” Balkatar lifts the weakened
Morbius and tells him to prepare to go on a journey.
Daemond suddenly bounds into the alleyway and orders Balkatar to
kill Morbius, but Balkatar will no longer listen to Daemond. Instead,
Balkatar bursts into a flash of light and disappears. Daemond goes back
to Martine in anger.
Meanwhile, the Caretakers, having been watching from afar, are
astounded and worried by the this series of events. They are now unsure
how they will save humanity.
Elsewhere, Balkatar and Morbius appear on the cliffs overlooking
another world, called “The Land Within.” It is the home of demons. The
place is filled with light, yet it does not hurt Morbius, for it is not
natural sunlight like that of Earth.
Morbius tries to understand this new place, but Balkatar knows
little of his own world as it is, so he dimisses Morbius’ questions. He
beckons Morbius to follow him to King Gerark’s palace where they are
expected. Balkatar surprises Morbius by stating nonchalantly that he is
to be executed for disobeying Daemond’s orders. Morbius is astounded
since the King himself ordered Balkatar away, but Balkatar states that
this does not matter. The rules are set in stone.
Balkatar and Morbius arrive as the thone room and are greeted
warmly by King Gerark who immediately has Balkatar taken away to a
prison cell.
The King informs Morbius that he was summoned to The Land Within
to help solve a crisis. There is a population problem and the King needs
a killer.
The king decides a history lesson might persuade Morbius.
